How to take care of it: Keep the String of Hearts in a very bright spot in your house, as it needs lots of sun for the best colour and more growth. Give this little guy a very good watering when the soil is completely dry all the way down.

Why you want it: There are so many different varieties of Hoya plants that are out there, there definitely has to be one that you'll fall in love with! The one pictured here is my Hoya Macrophylla, which I love because of the veining on the leaves.
How to take care of it: With some small exceptions, generally most Hoya varieties require very similar care. Let the plant dry out completely before giving the plant a good drink. You'll know when it needs water when the leaves get a little wrinkly. Hoyas like bright indirect light, and brighter light may turn the leaves a cool pinkish colour.
Other notes: Many people are attracted to this plant for their beautiful flowers! Although these plants aren't considered toxic to pets, they could make them very sick when ingested.

Why you want it: The ZZ plant is very hardy, and can tolerate low light and some neglect. This plant is loved because of its thick and glossy leaves, and it's unique shape.
How to take care of it: Water this plant when the top 1-2 inches feel dry, but be careful not to over-water. If you are deciding whether or not to water it, I'd wait a few days. This plant will grow in any light conditions (besides direct sunlight), but will grow faster when given more light.
Other notes: This plant is considered toxic to pets and humans.

Why you want it: The Pothos plant is perfect for beginners because they can tolerate both under-watering and over-watering. They'll also let you know when they need a drink when the stems and leaves become a little droopy and sad.
How to care for it: This plant can survive in low light, but they'll grow faster if given bright indirect light. Pothos like to have their soil dry out in between waterings, so stick your finger in the soil and when the soil feels dry a couple inches deep, give it a good drink.
Other notes: I've heard that this plant is nicknamed 'devil's ivy' because it's almost impossible to kill. This plant is one of the easiest plants to propagate, giving you lots of little Pothos babies! Keep this plant away from pets who may nibble on the leaves, this plant is toxic to pets and humans.
One of the most rewarding things about taking care of plants is seeing their new growth that they put while in your care! It makes me so happy comparing what my plants look like when I first got them and what they look like now. Taking care of a plant also gives you a sense of responsibility and adding more plants to your space can really add a lot to how your home looks. I really hope this inspires you to bring one of these easy houseplants home, to start your journey as a houseplant parent!
